Color Guard Championships Rescheduled Full Info
Color Guard Units of the CCGC,
It’s with great sadness that we were not able to hold the Color Guard Championship today. As a former director, I know all the time and planning that go into having the group ready for that special day. Thank-you for the support shown for this very difficult decision.
Because we were long past the start time of the show and there was no word on when power would be restored, The Executive Board made the decision to postpone color guard championships until April 21. PERCUSSION CHAMPIONSHIPS ARE STILL TOMORROW 4/8/2018
We know this causes some problems and hardships. We apologize for that.
If your unit was unable to attend the original date for championships but can attend the new date, please sign up.
Please let me know by this google form, as soon as possible, “Yes or No” if your unit can attend the new date for championships.
These were circumstances beyond anyone’s control with very few options. We, the Executive Board, waited as long as we could before making the final determination to postpone Championships.
Some have asked why we didn’t move to another venue? There were multiple reasons why we couldn’t do that including; insurance & liability issues, transportation issues, volunteer issues, etc.
For the sake of transparency and letting you know what we were dealing with, here is the timeline of events;
Fri, Apr 6, 2018 at 6:05 PM – First learned of the power outage at Independence. First email to circuit members goes out at 6:08 PM
Fri, April 6, 2018 7:18 PM – Independence Principal says he will try to get generators in place in case the power is not back.
Fri, Apr 6 at 9:09 PM - PG&E made the commitment to either having power restored or supplying a generator in the morning prior to our event start time. Second email to membership goes out at 9:11 PM.
Sat, Apr 7 at 5:00 AM – An Electrical Contractor contacted by Eastside Union High School District (EUHSD) to assist PG&E in restoring power. (Contractor never arrived)
Sat, Apr 7 at 6:61 AM – PG&E withdraws the commitment to either having power restored or supplying a generator in the morning prior to our event start time. Claiming the problem is with EUHSD’s Equipment not PG&E’s equipment.
Sat, Apr 7 at 8:45 AM – Members of the Executive Board arrive at Independence HS and are told by the maintenance staff that power will be restored between 10 – 11.
Sat, Apr 7 at 11:05 AM – Different contractors are contacted as the first ones never arrived. Board discusses options and at what time should we make the determination. The Executive Board decides if the power is not on by 12:30 PM to postpone championships until April 21. This would give the groups going to WGI a chance to participate. Third email goes out at 11:32 (Trouble with internet connection)
Sat, Apr 7 at 12:24 PM – Second Electrical contractor arrives as the PG&E Generator and crew are removed from the campus. Second Electrical contractor after a brief inspection determines that it will be several hours if not days until power is restored. Final email announcing the postponement of championships sent at 12:34 PM.
Of course, hindsight is 20/20 and it’s easy to second guess the decisions that were made. I feel we made the right call at the right time. If you have issues, please direct them to me. Lee
